Just pack your bag and your quest for knowledge and join us on the Civil Rights Tour. This is a good trip for those of you that are ready to spread your wings and travel, but are not quite ready to leave the country.

The long drive was so therapeutic. I was alone with my thoughts and the open road. No radio, no talking on the phone, no staring at a screen, no planning the next trip to Timbuktu. I was in the moment, not worrying about what happened yesterday or what might happen tomorrow. I hadn’t done that in such a long time and it was refreshing.

If you are feeling the itch to travel internationally, like I am, I recommend going to the Caribbean. Currently, there are several islands that are open to US Citizens – Aruba, Antigua, Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica and others.

There were times when I just had to be where things were happening. If someone invited me to an event, I wanted to know whom and how many people were going to be there. A party didn’t start jumping off until the room got crowded and folks started bumping into each other… Y’all know what I’m talking about!

I see some of you are starting to get cabin fever and are restless. Sheltering in place has been difficult for most people, but for travelers used to spreading their wings, the past few months have felt like being in a straitjacket.

February is the official month in which Black History is recognized and celebrated. However, at Overton Travel, we do not relegate celebrating the contributions of Black people to just one month, we celebrate them all year long.
